Abstract(s)
The present research is framed within the analysis of the perception of difficulties during teleworking, the performance/skills applied and the intention to remain in teleworking in the future, approached from the perspective of the different generations that integrate the labour market today. Having a mixed character, this research comprises two studies. Study 1 uses a quantitative methodology, holding structured research, which seeks to quantify data, apply statistical analysis, and obtain results that recommend a final course of action (Gil, 2008). Study 2 uses a qualitative methodology, namely semistructured interviews of a biographical nature and perceptions of each participant, who were distributed by three generational groups: Baby Boomer Generation, Generation X and Generation Millennials. Together, both studies aim to respond to the scarcity of research on the issue of telework, more specifically, in Portugal. The results showed some differences in the perceptions and challenges that the generations had during the pandemic period (i.e., difficulties in accessing the Internet; difficulties in communicating with co-workers; difficulties in working conditions) and the different strategies that they started to adopt in teleworking (i.e., contain technological skills; articulation between domestic and professional tasks; organizational strategies), allowed especially to obtain a comparative view between generations, which revealed that the main differences related to life cycle stages and generation-specific skills. Finally, some practical implications of the results obtained are presented, as well as the limitations and suggestions for future research.
