O terrorismo é um fenómeno que está na ordem do dia. Os ataques terroristas repetem-se
em todos os continentes e, na Europa, atingem as nossas cidades mais paradigmáticas, em
momentos carregados de significado político, social ou religioso que vão desde os
atropelamentos coletivos em Cannes, no Dia da França, ou em Berlim, na época do Natal,
até aos ataques em locais públicos e muito frequentados como no aeroporto e metro de
Bruxelas, ou em concertos públicos onde se celebra simplesmente a liberdade de viver,
como em Manchester. De fato, o terrorismo tem marcado de forma dramática o nosso
quotidiano e atacado os símbolos da nossa vivência coletiva. Não é um exagero por isso,
assumir que ele constitui uma das vias mais pervertidas da maquinação da política
internacional contemporânea, e obviamente dos assuntos relacionados com a guerra e a
paz.
Por outro lado, todos os ataques terroristas que referi têm em comum o fato de terem sido
conduzidos ou incentivados por uma mesma organização, pelo autoproclamado Estado
Islâmico (uma vez que ele não é na realidade um estado, nem é reconhecido pela
comunidade internacional como tal), que é por estes dias uma das estruturas que mais tem
dado aplicação a este conceito perverso.
Terrorism is a phenomenon that is the order of the day. The terrorist attacks are repeated on all continents and in Europe they reach our most paradigmatic cities, in moments full of political, social or religious significance ranging from the collective trampling in Cannes, on the Day of France, or in Berlin, at Christmas time, to attacks in public and busy places such as the Brussels airport and metro, or in public concerts where people simply enjoy freedom of life, as in Manchester. In fact, terrorism has dramatically marked our daily lives and attacked the symbols of our collective experience. It is no exaggeration, therefore, to assume that it is one of the most perverted avenues of the machinacy of contemporary international politics, and of course matters of war and peace. On the other hand, all the terrorist attacks I have mentioned have in common the fact that they have been led or encouraged by the same organization, by the self-proclaimed Islamic State (since it is not really a state, nor is it recognized by the international community as such), which is one of the structures that has most applied the concept.
