Abstract(s)
A investigação tem mostrado a importância do suporte social na saúde mental nos idosos. Este estudo teve como objetivo estudar a sintomatologia depressiva e a perceção de satisfação com o suporte social em idosos institucionalizados. Trata-se de um estudo observacional, analítico transversal, com comparação de grupos, desenvolvido numa valência de idosos, situada no distrito de Braga, duma Instituição Particular de Solidariedade Social. A amostra foi constituída por 34 idosos (17 participantes residentes no lar e 17 frequentam o centro de dia). Na avaliação das variáveis em estudo utilizamos a Escala de Satisfação com o Suporte Social (Ribeiro, 1999), a Escala de Depressão Geriátrica (Barreto, 2003) e um questionário sociodemográfico. Os resultados obtidos evidenciaram a não existência de diferenças significativas entre os grupos ao nível da satisfação com o suporte social bem como na depressão. O estudo sugere que menor satisfação com a intimidade e com as atividades sociais estão associadas à depressão
