Abstract(s)
This writing is part of the curricular unit “Final Stage and Report” inserted in the Master's Course in Child and Pediatric Health Nursing, of the Health Sciences Institute of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa - Oporto. It is identified, simultaneously, as a milestone for the end of a pedagogical cycle and as a personal testimony of how the learning that it incited developed and experienced. It aims to document the experiences, learning and reflections that have nourished each other over a four-month internship in a Pediatric Inpatient Service and in a Community Care Unit, between September 6, 2019 and January 4, 2020, in a total of 500 hours, in which 360 were in contact. The descriptive-reflective method used throughout the document allows the presentation of the specific objectives outlined in the preambular stage of the internship, which, for its achievement, led to activities, reflections and learning that attest to the development of the specific skills of the specialist nurse in child and pediatric health . The organization of the skills developed by four areas of expertise (care provision, care management, formation and research), in addition to structuring the document, enables the establishment of fundamental literary boundaries for the understanding of a clinical formative reality that interferes with them. Based on this strategy, i was able to deal with highly complex clinical situations, develop an efficient communication with the pediatric patient and multidisciplinary team, act in a critical, creative and scientifically based way in all pediatric contexts where i intervened, always under the aegis of ethical and deontological aspects inherent to the profession. With a view to a continuous production of knowledge and improvement in the quality of care provided, in each stage context i developed unique activities aimed at increasing the level of assistance, such as: - ways of locating information and measures of interaction between the SNS 24 line and the Pediatric Emergency Service to improve referral and prioritize urgent situations; - induced the development of protocols for the use of analgesia in neonates intubated in the Neonatology Service; - developed the protocol for using midazolam as a pre-anesthetic procedure in the Pediatric Service, and; - i resorted to alternative pedagogical strategies adapted to the different groups of trainees in the health education actions that i organized.
