- European society of endocrinology curriculum and training recommendation in endocrinologyPublication . European Soc Endocrinology ESE; UEMS Sec Board Endocrinology; Luger, Anton; Durkan, Maeve; Christ-Crain, Mirjam; Marques, PedroThe European Society of Endocrinology (ESE) and the Union Europ & eacute;enne des M & eacute;decins Sp & eacute;cialistes (U.E.M.S.) Section and Board of Endocrinology have produced a Curriculum and Training Recommendation in Endocrinology to provide updated recommendations concerning the content and structure of postgraduate training. Cornerstones of the Curriculum are the integrity of Endocrinology not to be divided into subspecialties such as diabetology or thyroidology, recommendation of 6 years full-time training comprising 1-3 years (preferably 2-3 years) of General Internal Medicine followed by 3-5 years of specialist training in Endocrinology across 13 core areas. In addition to knowledge and experience in the many fields of Endocrinology, the Curriculum includes specific attitudes, communication skills, training to work in and lead multidisciplinary teams, resource management, quality assurance, human-error management, and critical incidents reporting as well as the commitment to life-long learning expected from a trainee and from an Endocrinologist. The Curriculum also includes requirements for training centres, for assessment of training and for competencies of trainers. The aim of the ESE Curriculum and Training Recommendation in Endocrinology is to harmonise postgraduate training and help provide the best medical care for patients with endocrine diseases across Europe.
- Personalism in Generative AI deployment: deciding ethically when human creative expression is at stakePublication . Fioravante, Rosa; Vaccaro, AntoninoGenerative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) has the potential to automate, integrate or augment human creativity. Current literature reveals that organizations adopting such disruptive technology can both boost or hinder human creativity. Such ambiguity poses an ethical dilemma for decision-makers: while managers are pressured to adopt GAI quickly for optimization, holding on to their economic responsibilities, they must also ensure that its deployment is ethically enrooted and yields people-centered outcomes. This work seeks to discuss and inform managerial decision-making upon GAI deployment, by elucidating how ethically-salient dimensions of human creativity can be safeguarded and supported through GAI adoption. To do so, we draw on Personalism and its account of human creativity, as tied to inner morality and intrinsic dignity of the person. By this way, we present a model that highlights how three core dimensions—uniqueness, relationality, and unpredictability—are essential to preserve the human element in creative tasks in GAI adoption. Overall, this normative work contributes to enhance our knowledge on personalism within organizational studies, to shed new light on how organizations can safeguard the ethical nexus between human creativity and human intrinsic dignity, and to highlight how humanism in business can support people-centered AI deployment.
- Numerical simulation and optimization of heat transfer in solar box cookers: a pathway to Sustainable cookingPublication . Araújo, Ana C.; Silva, Cristina L. M.Solar box cookers offer a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative to conventional cooking methods, harnessing solar energy to generate heat for food preparation. A solar box cooker consists of an insulated box with a transparent cover that allows sunlight to enter, where it is then trapped and converted into heat, similar to the greenhouse effect. This simple yet effective design can reach sufficient temperatures to cook meals without the need for fossil fuels or electricity. Box solar cookers are especially beneficial in regions with abundant sunlight, as they provide a cost-effective, renewable way to cook food while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and dependence on non-renewable energy sources. In this study, a comprehensive mathematical model was developed for a solar box cooker equipped with multi-step inner reflectors, aimed at simulating its thermal performance. The model incorporates various heat transfer mechanisms, including conduction, convection, and radiation, across key components such as the double-glazed cover and reflectors positioned at specific angles (30°, 45°, and 75°). By solving a system of nonlinear differential equations, the temperature distribution across the cooker’s components was predicted over time. A statistical surface design was also applied to assess and optimize critical factors, including reflector angles, material properties, and ambient conditions, revealing key variables that enhance the cooker’s overall performance. The findings highlight the potential of this design to improve the efficiency of solar cooking systems and promote their use as a viable solution for sustainable food preparation, particularly in sun- rich regions.
