- Understanding the meaning of a digital school from the perspective of primary school teachersPublication . Cruz, Elisabete; Sousa, Emily; Brito, Rita; Costa, Fernando AlbuquerqueThe Escol@s Digitais Project, under development in all public primary schools of Amadora Municipality (Portugal), aims to support the process of digital transformation in school dynamics. In this article, we examine the meaning that the teachers who participate in this project attribute to the “digital school” concept. For this purpose, we mobilized a corpus of qualitative data obtained through an online questionnaire that included an open question, formulated in the following terms: “What do you think a `digital school´ could be?”. The analysis carried out, with peer validation, highlighted three dimensions that help us to understand the “digital school” concept in a holistic way: the first dimension underlines the elementary requirements to ensure the digitalization process in schools (strategic dimension); the second dimension highlights the pedagogical potential of digital tools (pedagogical dimension); and the third dimension emphasizes a set of values and principles by which any school, more or less digital, should guide its action (axiological dimension). In conjunction with the results of recent studies, it is concluded that the ongoing digital transformation process, despite being complex and multifaceted, is necessary to raise education to a qualitatively higher level.
- Equity valuation : Amazon.com Inc.Publication . Darcy, Laureline Garcia; Martins, José Carlos TudelaThis dissertation investigates the equity valuation of Amazon.com Inc., a global retailer of consumer goods and subscription services. The purpose of the valuation is to establish the fair value of Amazon's shares as of April 27, 2023, so that an investment recommendation can be made relative to the stock's current price. After analysing the most advanced equity valuation techniques, it was determined that the DCF valuation with perpetuity method was the most suitable method for valuing Amazon. In consideration of the diversity of Amazon's business divisions, a relative valuation technique known as sum-of-the-parts was added. The valuation is based on a thorough examination of the company's industry, environmental forces, past performance, and future prospects. The result is a target price of $126. This represents a 15.6% upside potential relative to the trading price of $109 on 27 April 2023, which corresponds to a BUY recommendation. Finally, the principal assumptions are compared to the Market Screener website's equity report and the market's consensus. The recommendations appear to be in accordance with the mean consensus despite differences in a few fundamental assumptions.
- A configurational approach to new product development performance: the role of open innovation, digital transformation and absorptive capacityPublication . Dabić, Marina; Posinković, Tena Obradović; Vlačić, Božidar; Gonçalves, RicardoGlobalization, digital acceleration, and market shocks have all revealed the importance of new product development in enabling companies to remain competitive. Focusing on digitally mature companies, we look into the different routes that organizations can take to accomplish this goal, involving a mix of inbound/outbound open innovation, digital transformation, and absorptive capabilities in the path towards higher levels of new product development performance. By employing structural equation modeling and fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis, four different organizational pathways emerge. A detailed analysis of these pathways provides further insights for scholars and practitioners, enhancing our understanding of the active role of open innovation, digital transformation, and absorptive capacity in new product development performance.
- Equity valuation of PUMA SEPublication . Krefting, Till; Martins, José Carlos TudelaIn this thesis, a valuation of the company “PUMA SE” is performed using suitable methods and, in dependence of the current share price, an investment recommendation is given to (potential) investors. As an established manufacturer in the sporting goods industry, PUMA operates in an attractive growth market due to superordinate social trends. Overall, the established players have enjoyed great popularity among investors in recent years. Despite positive outlooks, the entire industry face challenges in the near future due to macroeconomic factors. These must be overcome for a sustainable strategic positioning in the market. The author is confident that PUMA will succeed in taking the steps needed and, regardless of the valuation method chosen, he concludes that PUMA is currently undervalued and that a purchase of the share therefore makes sense. This is in line with the conclusion of the analyst of AlsterResearch AG, with whose equity report the results are compared at the end of the thesis.

- The future of the luxury supercar market in light of secular trendsPublication . Jerabek, Robin; Rajsingh, PeterSales of luxury supercars have been growing in recent years, becoming the most valued luxury sector globally while receiving little attention from academics. This dissertation analyzed the impact of changing consumer behavior of Generation Z and secular trends on this industry. Respectively, the paper anticipated the outlook of the supercar market and how manufacturers could adapt to trends such as generational transition, the sharing economy, sustainability, and deglobalization. The study combined qualitative and quantitative research methods. The review of literature analyzed key findings of scholars which were tested by conducting semi-structured interviews with industry experts and an online survey capturing the perspective of potential customers using the triangulation method. The key findings of this study revealed that the behavior of Gen Z is different from other cohorts, especially in their greater sustainability awareness when placing a high value on responsible manufacturing and supply chain processes, the application of non-harmful materials, and their willingness to use alternative fuels. Moreover, Gen Zers prioritize access to supercars rather than their direct ownership while being receptive to the concept of sharing economy. The study further highlighted that the luxury car industry is resilient to deglobalization effects and suggested several attributes for manufacturers to incorporate into their strategy to remain competitive.
- The role of cultural intelligence in the international marketing strategy of FMCG firmsPublication . Melloni, Federica; Parada, PedroThis master thesis aims to explore the role of cultural intelligence (CQ) in international marketing strategies within the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector. Using a qualitative research approach, 8 in-depth interviews were conducted with marketing professionals from leading FMCG companies to gain insights into their perceptions, challenges, and strategies related to CQ. Beginning with the literature review, the concepts of CQ and Firm CQ were examined, together with the definition of the FMCG sector. The research also explores existing literature on CQ in the context of international marketing strategies, specifically focusing on the adaptation versus standardization debate within the FMCG industry. Based on the literature reviews, four hypotheses were formulated to guide the research. Through thematic analysis of 8 in-depth interviews, the findings highlight the crucial role of CQ in international marketing strategies in the FMCG sector, in line with the existing literature. The results support the hypothesis derived from the literature, which emphasizes the importance of CQ in promoting cross-cultural communication and itsimpact on decision-making processes, consumer behaviour, and the choice between adaptation and standardization strategies. In conclusion, the study demonstrates the challenges that marketing professionals face in effectively integrating CQ, including time constraints, resource limitations, the need for extensive market research and managing conflicting interests. Investing in local physical presence, continuous market research and trend analysis, improving the understanding of cultural differences, and prioritizing consumer relevance in product positioning and branding are some recommendations made to enhance CQ in international marketing strategies.
- Equity Valuation : EssilorLuxottica SAPublication . Lueken, David Christopher; Martins, José Carlos TudelaThrough the acquisition of the global eyewear retailer GrandVision, EssilorLuxottica has created an exciting healthcare group differentiating itself from peers by its unique vertical integration strategy. This thesis aims to determine the intrinsic value of this group by performing commercial, financial, and valuation analysis and to subsequently evaluate the attractiveness of an investment in the company for investors. EssilorLuxottica´s future growth is heavily linked to the development of the global eyecare market and positively affected by realized synergies and new market entries. It is anticipated that the company will be able to leverage its market-leading position to drive operational improvements and cash optimization. As a result of the analysis performed, this thesis confirms the attractiveness of EssilorLuxottica from an investment perspective with an intrinsic share price estimate of €189.35 trading at an estimated discount of 9-12% at year-end 2022, while providing a further 7% upside potential for 2023. Consequently, a “Buy” recommendation is proposed. Compared to current equity research of UBS, this is a more optimistic view since the bank has recently changed its house view from Buy to Hold based on inflationary pressures and pessimistic views on new market entries.
- The impact of advertising on SVOD platforms in the Portuguese marketPublication . Campos, Pedro Filipe Reis; Rajsingh, Peter V.Subscription video on-demand (SVOD) platforms have changed the way global television audiences consume content. It has successfully reinvented the traditional media and entertainment sectors while bringing about substantial changes in how content is produced, consumed, and distributed. This thesis aims to analyse the impact of the introduction of advertising to streaming platforms may affect subscriber behaviour in the Portuguese market. This is an observational, descriptive, and cross-sectional study with a focus on quantitative methodology, with a sample of 332 participants of both genders, aged between 16 and 34 years old and with Portuguese nationality. For data collection was used a questionnaire built specifically for this study based on the literature review carried out and includes the following parts: (i) sociodemographic characterization, (ii) identification of the current behaviour of subscribers to SVOD platforms, (iii) opinion of subscribers about the streaming services they subscribe to and (iv) interest in subscribing to new platforms through ad-subscription plans. The study revealed that the introduction of an ad-supported plan would lead to 73% increase streaming subscriptions among the sample. Furthermore, one in four of the current full-price memberships in the sample would be ‘downgraded’ to a reduced-price plan with commercials if the ad-tier plan is discounted at least 50% off the full price. Lastly, the main findings of the report will be discussed, and potential limitations and further research options acknowledged in this research project.
