- Transcultural translation and validation of Lasater Clinical Judgment Rubric©Publication . Duarte, Hugo Miguel Santos; Lasater, Kathie; Dixe, Maria dos Anjos Coelho RodriguesOBJECTIVES: to translate and cross-culturally validate the Lasater Clinical Judgment Rubric© (LCJR©) instrument for nursing students. METHODS: the application of LCJR-PT© was preceded by a linguistic translation into Portuguese, based on the translation-back-translation method. This psychometric study involved 32 nursing students from a program in Portugal. Data were collected through observations of two independent observers during the performance of the practices developed by the students, through the scenarios validated by experts of high and of medium-fidelity simulation. RESULTS: of the 64 observations obtained from the practices of nursing students, the value of intra-class correlations in the 4 aspects of the instrument exceeded 0.792. There was a global Cronbach's alpha of LCJR-PT© of 0.921 and 0.876 in Observers 1 and 2 respectively, with a statistically significant level of agreement. CONCLUSIONS: the LCJR-PT© is a valid and reliable instrument, demonstrating a high potential for its use in clinical education and nursing research.
- The implications of China’s economic statecraft in the European Union : the case of chinese foreign direct investment in PortugalPublication . Santos, Luís Pedro Moço da Costa; Garcia, Francisco ProençaThis thesis contributes to the analysis of Chinese economic statecraft in the European Union, by zooming on the Chinese Outward Foreign Direct Investment (COFDI) in Portugal. Understanding economic statecraft as the usage of economic instruments in pursuit of political objectives, this work investigates the political and strategic implications of COFDI in Portugal. While many regard COFDI as a lifeline, others fear it to be politically motivated and part of a Chinese masterplan to convert economic power into political influence. But what type of political influence can China aspire to acquire, and under what conditions? This thesis is pioneer in providing an exhaustive library of investment case studies about all COFDI cases in Portugal between 2011 and 2019. It also surfaces how the potential implications of COFDI are perceived by the key domestic stakeholders, such as senior government officials, business executives, representatives from local Chinese institutions and other opinion makers. Zooming in on the investment cases reveals insights regarding the motivations behind COFDI and its operationalization patterns. Chinese investors are willing to have non-controlling stakes in assets which provide other strategic returns, such as access to know-how or to the Portuguese speaking markets. Through the interviews with key stakeholders, it was possible to identify four clusters based on the interviewees perceptions of COFDI, and extract the overall picture - the prevailing approach to COFDI is that of confidence on the country’s ability to have the cake and eat it too. This means using COFDI as a proxy for domestic capital (which is scarce), balancing it against the dependence from western powers and pulling all parties to invest further in the country, with due awareness about tangible security implications.
Renzi, Francesco; Mariani, AndreaThis article aims at studying the exemption of the Portuguese monastery of San Salvador of Grijó during the twelfth century. By the analysis of the privileges of Innocent II, Lucius II, Eugene III and Celestine III, we will show on the one hand how the monastery’s exemption was the result of the interaction between the canons of Grijó, the bishops of Porto, Braga, Coimbra and the Papacy. On the other, we will illustrate how the monastery, despite the exemption, remained under the power of order of the diocesan ordinary.
- Encouraging wine storytelling in the tourist experience: a preliminary studyPublication . Santos, Vasco Ribeiro; Sousa, Bruno Barbosa; Ramos, Paulo; Dias, Álvaro; Madeira, ArlindoWine tourism has long since ceased to be just a visit to wine producing regions and wineries, just to taste or buy wine. In fact, wine tourism has become more complex as a tourist product, due to the requirement of visitors to obtain a differentiated experience, composed of multiple elements Wine tourism activities consist of, above all, wine tastings and cellar, wine house and wine museum visits. Currently, and in the future, wine tourism has provided and boosted the creation of genuine and unique tourist experiences, more and more differentiated tailor-made. This preliminary approach aims to evaluate the role of wine storytelling as an antecedent in the wine tourism experience, namely on other constructs as winescape attributes, sensorial attraction, wine excitement and cultural experience. A range of practical implications are provided for wine tourism managers, marketers and wine guided tours namely on the importance on the training the storytelling skill by the wine cellars staff. The new vogue of wine tourism forces us to challenge and re-visit the power relationships that exist within contemporary tourism and the host–guest relationship. As an interdisciplinary approach, this research contributes positively to the development of theory in relationship marketing and tourism contexts in wine management (theoretical implications). At the end, guidelines for future work will be presented.
