- Cerebral palsy and language : a systematic reviewPublication . Gonçalves, Filipa Pais; Nunes, Maria Vânia SilvaAim: The aim of this systematic review was to describe the language’s development in children with cerebral palsy and its association with other variables, such as the Cerebral Palsy (CP) subtype and the level of Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS). Method: A systematic review was carried out, following the prisma check-list. The databases consulted were PUBMED, SCOPUS and Web of Science. Articles published in other languages, than English, and articles that used only functional measures to assess expressive language, were excluded. The Systematic Review Protocol was registered in the PROSPERO Register. Results: A total of 723 publications were found in the PUBMED, SCOPUS and WEB of SCIENCE databases. Of these articles, 374 duplicates were excluded. Most of the included studies were developed in European countries and in the last 10 years. There were only 2 case-control studies, which compared tipically developped (TD) children with children with CP, as all the others being observational cohort studies, organized either by CP subtype or by other functional classifications. Regarding the evaluated language subdomains, all studies assessed receptive language and most all of those also assessed expressive language. Within these two main areas, there was great variability in the specific domains evaluated, from semantics, phonological awareness, articulation, lexical development. Conclusion: The data found in this systematic review reinforces the idea proposed by previous researchers that the motor disorders are often accompanied by disturbances in cognition and, in particular, in language. In the studies where the CP children were compared with TD children, although there was significant variability among subdomains, the performance was, in general, poorer. In what concerns the association with the GMFCS level and the CP subtype, all articles showed that as GMFCS level increases, the language impairments also increase and the dyskinetic subtype seemed to be the one with poorer performance in language tasks, results that are in line with previous research.
- Effects of a sexual education program for people with intellectual disabilityPublication . Quesado, Ana; Vieira, Margarida; Quesado, PaulaIntroduction: The person with intellectual disability is in a vulnerable situation, namely with regard to affections and sexuality. Generally, these people have precarious knowledge about sexuality, and their sexual education is insufficient or inadequate to their characteristics and needs, and it is essential for nurses to intervene in the field of sexual education with this population. The implementation of health literacy programmes aimed at people with intellectual disability, within the scope of sexuality, using inclusive strategies, can contribute to the development of healthy and safe relationships. Objetive: To assess the effects of a sex education programme on a sample of people with intellectual disabilities. Methods: Action-research developed in four cycles, between 2011 and 2015, in an institution to support people with intellectual disabilities. Results: In the first cycle, sex education was identified as a priority, and in the last one a sex education programme was implemented and its effects evaluated with the SexKen-ID scale, with improvements in the participants' knowledge being noted. Conclusion: The results of this study revealed the importance of sex education for people with intellectual disabilities and a better knowledge attainment over all the topics, when using homogeneous groups, adapted discourse and interactive strategies such as gamification. The promotion of a dynamic and reflective environment, promoted learning and experiences sharing.

- Factors that influence customer and family satisfaction with palliative care: scoping reviewPublication . Pinto, Igor; Novais, Sónia; Carvalhais, Maribel; Gomes, Sara; Soares, CustódioIntroduction: The assessment of satisfaction with palliative care (PC) from the perspective of its primary beneficiaries is essential and is consolidated with the ethical duty of health professionals to provide the best care. Objective: To synthesize the scientific evidence on the factors that influence the assessment of customer satisfaction with PC and identify the instruments used for its assessment. Methods: Review according to the Joanna Briggs Institute method for carrying out a scoping review. The search was carried out in Scopus, CINAHL Complete and Web of Science databases, and in OpenGrey, and Dart-Europe in July 2021. The selection was carried out by two independent researchers and the data were grouped into themes according to their contents. Results: Forty studies were included. From the analysis carried out, researchers concluded that the factors that influence the assessment of satisfaction were grouped into five themes: Availability of Care, Physical Care, Psychosocial Care, Communication of Information and Care for the Patient in Imminent Death. Conclusion: FAMCARE is the most widely used measurement instrument to assess customer satisfaction with PC. Knowledge of influencing factors allows both organizations and professionals to promote better personalization of care, to ensure safety and quality, and to adjust to the expectations of clients and caregivers.
- Alterity, recognition and the dialogical principlePublication . Henriques, António Mendo CastroThe author presents the dialogical principle I am constituted through Thou as a tool to understand the double edge concept of identity, as sketched by Zygmunt Bauman whom he considers an enlightened sceptic. He pays special attention to the concept of recognition or acknowledgment, as a meeting point of the universal and the unique, for the building of relational and dynamic identities in post-modern societies. Contemporary authors such as Kierkegaard and Rosenzweig, or Church Fathers such as Saint Augustine and St John Climacus, and other traditions, consider the I and Thou relationship as the fundamental standpoint for man’s existence; as such, we may follow their ideas as a reference for intercultural and interreligious dialogue in a globalized world.
