- The role of fairness on trust and team work engagement in teamsPublication . Drescher, Tony; Costa, Patrícia LopesThe purpose of this thesis was to study the influence of justice perception on trust behaviors and team work engagement in teams and specially considered computer-mediated communication competences in this case. A model was proposed and tested to explore the connection of these study variables. The study is based on a survey answers from 111 individuals, divided in 34 real life teams in total, and working in 25 different sectors. Results showed a significant positive effect of justice perception on trust and team work engagement, but left room for further influences and research. Computer-mediated communication competences which become more and more important nowadays for not geographical close teams, did not show any significant influence as a moderator on the dependent variables trust and team work engagement. To transpose the study results in practice, supervisors can achieve higher team effectiveness by active execution of procedural, distributive, and interpersonal justice guidelines to achieve higher trust and team work engagement.
- Social Communication and its many areas : development of an evaluation tool to favor students’ decision-making processPublication . Sousa, Maria Manuel; Pinto, Joana CarneiroThis paper aims to present a study whose main purpose was the development of simple, concise, fast and affordable assessment instrument that favors the decision-making process about the areas of the students attending the 2nd cycle of studies of the Communication Sciences, of the Catholic University of Portugal. The development of the instrument was based on the Theory of Vocational Personality (Holland, 1958, 1959), one of the most important contemporary career theories, which aims to explain the relationship between the different personality types and the professional environment chosen by each individual. Holland wanted to develop career aid tools so that psychologists and their clients could better handle and perceive the issue of choice and job satisfaction. Initially, interviews were conducted with the coordinators of the degree and of the master’s degree in Social Communication, as well as a current student from each of the 6 possible areas of choice - Communication, Marketing and Advertising; Communication, Organization and Leadership; Media and Journalism; Communication, Television and Cinema; Internet and New Media; and, Political Communication, - and alumni who were already in the work environment. Some official documents were also analyzed on the objectives, structure, contents, and competencies related to each of the different areas. Based on this data collection, we constructed some items that focus on interests (what the person knows/wants to learn), skills (what the person does/wants to learn how to do), and in future professional contexts (where the person intends to integrate his/herself into the labor market). According to Holland (1959), people seek environments (contexts) where they can exercise their interests, skills and abilities, express their attitudes and values, and take on pleasant problems and roles. A pilot study was carried out with these items, in which a set of students with their choice of area already completed was invited to fill out this experimental version, to verify the calibration of the instrument in the identification of the respective area. After some modifications that were suggested, the final version of the assessment instrument was developed and administered to a new sample of students, confronting their options of choice before completing the questionnaire with the final result obtained by it. All of these different phases and outcomes from qualitative and quantitative studies will be presented throughout this work, and implications will also be drawn on the importance of developing assessment tools that respond to the specific needs of people and contexts.

- Insects, a pathway to a new nutritional sourcePublication . Carvalho, Nelson Mota de; Madureira, Ana Raquel; Gibson, Glenn; Jauregi, Paula; Pintado, Manuela EstevezIntroduction: According to FAO (2017) the world population will reach 9.7 billion by 2050 which makes it necessary to develop sustainable food and feed systems that answer the growing population nutritional needs without exerting a large ecological impact. Recent studies have shown the relevance of insects as a food source due to their nutritional content (they are good sources of protein, fibre and fatty acids). Moreover, insect farming, for human or livestock consumption, is relatively low- cost and eco-friendly when comparing to the common livestock industry. The impact of an insect containing diet upon the human organism is then relevant, particularly at the gut microbiota level which has been described as being linked to overall health. Future studies, focusing upon this relationship can reveal the true potential of insects as a balanced nutrient source and eventual benefits for the human gut microbiota and overall well-being. Conclusions: The demand for healthier food sources is important, however, it must be a conscientious demand defined by the boundaries of what is safe to eat, nutritionally balanced and even what is a sustainable practice. Nowadays, studies can show the impact of food sources and their nutrients on human health. Gut microbiota studies are leading the way to show the major interactions on the human body by screening the effects of novel foods and bioactives upon the organism. Insects and insect-based products are emerging as a possible response to all these concerns, as they are a good nutrient source and their farming is an eco-friendly and low cost process. Therefore, insects and insect-based ingredients may very well be one of the answers to a sustainable and healthier dietary shift, that may bring unforeseen benefits to the individual and the community.
- A importância do movimento corporal no ensino do violinoPublication .
