- A critical analysis of the accounting for sale and lease back transactions under the new IFRS 16Publication . Sieverding, Antonius; Norden, LarsObjetivo/Resumo dos objetivos – O objetivo do trabalho de Antonius Sieverding “Uma análise crítica da contabilização de transações de venda e arrendamento sob a nova IFRS 16” é acessar o tratamento da operação de venda e arrendamento mercantil de acordo com a introdução da nova norma de arrendamento mercantil IFRS 16 e determinar suas consequências para os negócios. Devido a essas mudanças de longo alcance, a contabilização das transações de venda e arrendamento de acordo com a IFRS 16 é analisada criticamente e avaliada em relação à finalidade e aos princípios selecionados da contabilidade do IFRS. Além disso, é feita uma comparação com as disposições da IAS 17. Outrossim, esta pesquisa visa identificar espaço potencial para evitar as consequências da IFRS 16 e vincula essas descobertas à prática. Design / metodologia / abordagem – A pesquisa foi dividida em diferentes partes. Em primeiro lugar, a fundamentação teórica é determinada com o uso de materiais do IASB em relação ao novo padrão de locação para investigar possíveis diferenças ocorridas na IFRS 16. Baseado em um exemplo prático, o procedimento contábil para uma transação de venda e arrendamento segundo a IFRS 16, para ambos envolvendo partes, é mostrado. Os resultados são discutidos e vinculados, especialmente no que diz respeito ao propósito e várias possibilidades oferecidas pela IFRS 16. Resultados/ Conclusão – A introdução da IFRS 16 traz grandes mudanças para os negócios. Uma transação de venda e arrendamento sob a IFRS 16 leva em contraste com a IAS 17 (assumindo a locação operacional) para uma contabilidade em balanço. Limitações – Não é necessário apresentar uma análise completa e revisão do novo padrão. Aplicabilidade do trabalho – Este trabalho pode servir as empresas, assim como o auditor e contadores, como uma diretriz para o tratamento de transações de venda e arrendamento sob a IFRS 16 e mostra as consequências. Originalidade – Para o conhecimento do autor, este é o primeiro estudo que combina uma comparação entre a IAS 17 e a IFRS 16 com o tratamento de transação de venda e arrendamento e determina sua finalidade e as consequências para as empresas que usam um exemplo prático.

Durante a minha vida profissional tive a oportunidade de tirar partido da abrangência inerente à área de Microbiologia nos diferentes sectores onde tenho trabalhado. Ao longo de 10 anos, desde a finalização da minha Licenciatura, exerci as seguintes profissões: Professor de Ciências Naturais para o Ministério da Educação. De 13 de maio até 20 de junho de 2009 na Escola Básica 2/3 de Fajões no concelho de Oliveira de Azeméis, Aveiro. De 09 de março até 23 de abril de 2010 na Escola Secundária Oliveira Júnior no concelho de São João da Madeira, Aveiro; Formador de Nutrição e Dietética para o Ministério da Solidariedade, Emprego e Segurança Social. De junho até dezembro de 2009 no Centro de Formação Profissional do Porto - Sector Terciário, Porto e de março a junho de 2010 na Junta de Freguesia de Pedroso no Concelho de Vila Nova de Gaia, Porto; Oficial do Exército para o Ministério da Defesa Nacional desde 26 de julho de 2010 até 01 de maio de 2014, tendo sido colocado A 8 de janeiro de 2011 no Regimento de Guarnição Nº3, no Funchal; Laboratory Technician na empresa Florida Biologix de março de 2015 até março de 2016 em Alachua, Flórida, EUA; Biological Technician na Instituição University of Florida de março até novembro de 2016 em Alachua, Flórida, EUA; Associate Research Technologist na Instituição Arizona State University de dezembro de 2016 até à presente data em Maricopa, Arizona, EUA. Com a diversidade de atividades profissionais pude pôr em prática o que aprendi e adquirir novas valências não só profissionais como pessoais. Ao longo da minha carreira profissional mantive uma atualização permanente do conhecimento à medida das tarefas desempenhadas, nomeadamente no apoio ao fabrico e no controlo de qualidade de produtos biológicos e no campo da investigação e inovação científica. Aprendi a comunicar, de forma clara e sustentada, os meus conhecimentos e conclusões a diferentes públicos. Estas valências são essenciais ao perfil de um Mestre em Microbiologia Aplicada.
- Avaliação das necessidades paliativas biopsicossociais das pessoas em situação de sem-abrigo da cidade de LisboaPublication . Félix, Carolina Inês Vieira; Capelas, Manuel LuísIntrodução: Este estudo tem como objetivo avaliar as necessidades biopsicossociais das pessoas em situação de sem-abrigo de Lisboa. Esta é uma população de alto risco, considerada como o mais extremo de exclusão social, com problemas complexos (materiais, sociais, psicológicos, patológicos), levando a um aumento significativo da taxa de mortalidade. Devido a iniquidades socioeconómicas, o acesso a serviços de saúde primários é difícil e a serviços especializados, como cuidados paliativos, é quase inexistente. Metodologia: A população-alvo (n=30) de pessoas em situação de sem-abrigo de Lisboa, comparada com antigos sem-abrigo internados na Comunidade Vida e Paz (n=35). Foi desenvolvido um estudo quantitativo correlacional, aplicando o FACIT-G, versão 4 e um questionário sociodemográfico. Resultados: as pessoas em situação de sem-abrigo manifestam em média piores resultados no FACIT-G do que os utentes da Comunidade Vida e Paz (55.87 contra 65.66). Mesmo os sem-abrigo acompanhados em serviços médicos especializados reportam sofrimento biopsicossocial. Conclusão: os participantes reportam menos sofrimento após terem apoio biopsicossocial (por serviços de saúde ou pela comunidade vida e paz), mas continuam a manifestar dor total. Com apoio biopsicossocial manifestam mais insight e capacidade de autoanálise. Sugere-se a criação de serviços específicos, com equipas multidisciplinares baseadas na filosofia dos Cuidados Paliativos para amenizar o seu sofrimento.
- Developing and applying a smart city for development model : the case of COR in Rio de JaneiroPublication . Kuhl, Alexander; Joia, Luiz AntonioThe present thesis addresses how smart city initiatives can positively impact development, with a special emphasis on developing countries in Latin America. Existing definitions and maturity models have a very strong focus on the mere use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and ignore the special needs and factors to be considered in developing countries. By using the extant literature on Smart Cities and Information and Communication Technology for Development (ICT4D) as a related area from which to learn, a comprehensive Smart City for Development (SC4D) model is introduced and then exemplified via its application to a Latin American smart city initiative. The thesis argues that a favorable ecosystem for SC4D is one that is backed by both national and local sustainability, infrastructure, human capital, services, apps, and data. Moreover, successful SC4D initiatives include bottom-up approaches, citizen participation, a fit with both the national and the local culture, as well as a fit with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and the Capability Approach developed by Amartya Sen.

- Authentic leadership revisited : an empirical study of morality in authentic leadershipPublication . Bartsch, Marvin; Sobral, Filipe João Bera de AzevedoAnswering to recent calls in literature to reconsider the necessity of morality in the concept of authentic leadership, the purpose of this work was to empirically evaluate the role of morality inside the construct. To do so, a survey experiment was created that examines the effects of the two concepts of authenticity and morality on perceived leader effectiveness. Most importantly the results of the experiment have shown that there is an insignificant difference between inauthentic but moral leaders and authentic but immoral leaders in perceived leader effectiveness. Ultimately, the findings suggest that immoral leaders should not be generally excluded from authentic leadership constructs and that the concept should be subject to further investigation.
- Challenging the Status Quo : car ownership and the Generation Y : an analysis of the German MarketPublication . Wesselmann, Jonas Benedikt; Parente, Ronaldo CoutoPurpose – This work aims to identify how people of the Generation Y in Germany see the future of mobility with a special focus on car ownership. Furthermore, determinants influencing car ownership are analyzed and implications for the automotive industry are drawn. Design/Methodology – The research relies on primary data collected through an online survey among 20 – 27 years old people in Germany. In order to draw valid conclusions, the data was analyzed carrying out logistic regressions. Findings – Two main factors that influence the likelihood if people own a car were identified. Living in rural areas and being employed are positively associated with car possession, while no significant relationship between environmental attitude and car ownership could be identified. Research limitations – The older part of the Generation Y, those above 27 years, was not covered by the data, therefore no general conclusions on the behavior of the whole generation and international differences can be drawn. Practical implications – This research can help corporations in the automotive and mobility industries to further understand and differentiate their target segment. People of the Generation Y cannot be seen as one homogenous group but need to be identified as fragmented subgroups with entirely different needs and desires. Originality – To the knowledge of the author, this is the first study that combines the topics of Generation Y and sharing economy with the trends in the automotive industry to identify peoples’ perception of mobility.
- WomanBeing : woman artists : a visual platform for gender equalityPublication . Brito, Ana Rita Mestre de Pina e; Silva, Ana Luísa dos Santos Diniz daThis project consists in the creation of WomanBeing – Women Artists, a non-profit cultural association that fights for gender equality within the visual arts in Portugal through an online platform that will support, empower and promote emerging women artists. WomanBeing – Women Artists is created as a result of this project‟s research question, which is also its case for action: “After identifying the present lack of gender equality within the visual arts in Portugal, how can the representation and visibility - much needed for these women artists – be promoted?” Following the case for action of this research, it will be carried out a social and cultural analysis of the feminist critical approach, in depth on the Portuguese scene and briefly on the international in order to understand the past and present situation of gender inequality within the arts‟ system. After addressing the present scenario of gender inequality and the mechanisms for its systemic existence, this research will fight these through the creation of an alternative to the existing gap regarding the theme within the visual arts. In this sense, WomanBeing – Women Artists arises as a project with a cohesive line of action through its mission, goals, selected audiences and activities. Focused on emerging women artists, the association embraces the feminist cause and is guided by the principles of equality, empowerment, diversity and sisterhood promoted among the artists while articulating concepts such as artistic citizenship, representation and agency between the artists and the cultural environment. WomanBeing – Women Artists thus intersects gender equality and creative industries aiming at the creation of a space of representativeness and visibility for emerging women artists.
