- Climate migration in post-apocalyptic narratives on the mainstream screenPublication . Koncz, Linda; Villas Boas, AlexThrough the perspective of ‘catastrophising thought’, this work undertakes a comparative analysis of five post-apocalyptic films dealing with climate migration: Waterworld, Snowpiercer, Interstellar, Mad Max: Fury Road and Mortal Engines in order to identify recurring themes within their dystopian societies. These narratives share an apocalyptic literary approach, intertwining biblical elements to draw a subjectivity that enables us to see the end of our known world order simultaneously as a new beginning. In the plots, technological development is related to the disrespect of ecological harmony and, therefore, extreme climate conditions. The changes in the films’ narratives lead to a new kind of spirituality and a new concept of home. This article concludes by evaluating how these findings relate to the real, contemporary world.

- From selfcare to taking care of our common home: spirituality as an integral and transformative healthy lifestylePublication . Villas Boas, Alex; Esperandio, Mary Rute Gomes; Caldeira, Sílvia; Incerti, FabianoOne of the great threats to health in the 21st century is the relationship between health and environmental issues, as there is an inevitable relationship between the planet’s degradation and health problems. In this sense, health is also seen as a problem of public order, and more precisely of political order, to the extent that such an environmental issue implies public health as a social value that affects the spaces of political decision making; moreover, to the extent that the environmental issue also intersects with the religious issue, namely with the 2030 Agenda in the 21st century. This article intends to think about how such a confluence occurs regarding religion, public health, and the environment, considering how spiritual care provided in the healthcare domain is related to care in the common home (Cf. CITER, Project «Common home and new ways of living interculturally: Public theology and ecology of culture in pandemic times»). In particular, this article intends to analyse such issues in Brazilian and Portuguese contexts.

- A theological aesthetics of resistance: Vincent van Gogh as reader of DostoevskyPublication . Villas Boas, AlexThe perspective adopted in this paper is that of political spirituality, in the sense that the intersection between religion and politics mutually produces the insertion of elements from one field into the other in order to create ethical resistance. In this context, the archeology of theological knowledge aims to map how theology constitutes fields for genealogies of both power and ethics. Ethics represents a social practice in which poetics and arts represent discursive and aesthetic practices that are an opening of a space that does not need to be authorized by the established order of reality, a seed of possibility in the cracks of the walls of impossibility that creates bridges for hope. The apparently impossible unfolds not only as contestation but, potentially in culture, as an emergence of the impossible that dwells first in desire. It is the beginning of a new social learning and the engine of a new collective intelligence through empathy for the pain of an era. In this sense, theological criticism can emerge through a new sensibility concerning the suffering of a time—before theological enunciations, through the theological aesthetics of resistance.
- Vincent van Gogh’s theological chromatology: a critical reader of the bible from his option for the poor avant la lettrePublication . Villas Boas, AlexThe aim of this article is to show how Vincent van Gogh developed a theological reflection that is mainly present in his paintings with religious motifs. This reflection is the fruit of his religious experience, which combines his spirituality with a social commitment to the miners in Borinage, Belgium, which can be seen as an option for the poor avant la lettre in the 19th century. This experience, far from strengthening his institutional relationship, rather provoked a critical attitude towards the theological discourse of the ecclesial context in which he lived and led the aspiring pastor to become a genius in painting. His theological interpretation as a critical reader of the Bible can be translated into what will be called here a theological chromatology, to be identified through the intersection of letters and paintings of Vincent van Gogh. Given the influence of the Dutch painter genius on contemporary culture, the process through which his reflection on the religious and theological issue emerges can be seen as a significant element in understanding the present in post-secular societies.
