- From the burden on the family...to the caregiving experiencing - which is the most heuristic theoretical model for understanding informal caregiving to the schizophrenic patient?Publication . Campos, Luísa; Marques-Teixeira, J.; Cardoso, Carlos MotaDesinstitutionalization movement led a great percentage of chronic mental patients being integrated in community. Consequently, familiar burden becomes a central object of concern of scientific community, especially after forties. However, a c1ear definition of the burden on the family is not consensual in the literature. Furthermore, there is no a standardized instrument that could be consensually accepted by international community as an adequate tool to evaluate it. In this way. this paper aims to contribute with a literature analysis of this issue in order to design an heuristic theoretical model that support further researches in this domain.

Palha, Filipa; Rebelo, C.; Castro-Henriques, M.; Marques-Teixeira, J.ln the past decade, "the cognitive deficits associated with schizophrenia have assumed an increasingly central role in explaining the disability associated with the disorder" (APA, 2004), with resulted in the development of both pharmacologic and psychological treatment responses. Regarding thelast ones, different cognitive rehabilitation approaches have been developed, amongst which is lhe "Cognitive Remediation Therapy" developed by Delahunty et aI. (2002), recently translated and adapted to Portuguese (Palha et al., 2006) .. The present case-study refers to the first application of the Portuguese version of CRT in a long-term institutionalized schizophrenic patient.
