O presente estudo consiste em conhecer como os gestores de Instituições de Longa Permanência para Idosos (ILPI), no Distrito Federal, percebem e enfrentam a problemática do isolamento social observado especialmente em pessoas idosas. Buscouse investigar sobre o perfil sociodemográfico das instituições e dos gestores, conhecer os principais desafios enfrentados para combater o isolamento vivenciado pelos idosos institucionalizados, e qual a percepção sobre as políticas públicas como respostas às necessidades das pessoas mais velhas. Para tal, foi utilizada uma metodologia quantitativa, por meio da aplicação de um formulário online a quinze gestores representantes de outras tantas estruturas residenciais. A maioria dos respondentes são do sexo feminino, com idade entre 30 e 49 anos, graduados, porém, com pouca ou sem formação na área do envelhecimento. As instituições que os respondente representam possuem entre 20 e 60 residentes, sendo filantrópicas e sem fins lucrativos. Os resultados indicam a complexidade de se gerir uma ILPI, apontando para a carência de parceria com familiares e a sociedade, a importância da intervenção de uma equipe multiprofissional para a proposição de novas estratégias e reformulação de políticas socioeducativas. Em termos gerais, para enfrentar o isolamento social, torna-se imperioso que os gestores, profissionais, residentes, família e sociedade se unam para ressignificar a velhice como fonte de sabedoria e legado para a humanidade, combatendo o isolamento através da promoção da convivência e do fortalecimento de vínculos.
The present study consists of knowing how the managers of “Instituições de Longa Permanência para Idosos” (ILPI) – the equivalent to Nursing Homes – in the Federal District, perceive and face the problem of social isolation as a phenomenon especially observed in the older people. We sought to investigate the socio demographic profile of institutions and managers, learn about the main challenges faced to combat the isolation experienced by institutionalized older people and what is the perception of public policies to the needs of older people living in institutions. A quantitative methodology was used, through the application of an online structured form. Fifteen managers representing the institutions answered, one participant for each residential structure, referring to the individual understanding experience on a daily basis. Most respondents are female, aged between 30 and 49 years old, graduated, but with little or no training in the field of aging. Participating institutions have between 20 and 60 residents and are philanthropic and not¬for¬profit. The results indicate the complexity of managing an ILPI, pointing out the lack of partnership with family members and society, the importance of a multidisciplinary team to propose new strategies and reformulation of socio educational policies. In general terms, to face social isolation, it is imperative that managers, professionals, residents, family and society unite to reframe old age as a source of wisdom and legacy for humanity, combating isolation through the promotion of coexistence and strengthening bonds.
