No âmbito do império colonial português dos séculos XIX e XX, este capítulo revela e discute a Esfera Pública Imperial, a qual teve como estrutura privilegiada a imprensa de metrópole e os jornais publicados nas colónias. A Esfera Publica Imperial constituiu um espaço público de debate, disputa e confronto sobre as dinâmicas sociopolíticas de Portugal, das colónias e do império. As ‘elites imperiais’ e as ‘elites coloniais’ foram as protagonistas na configuração deste espaço público de exercício de poder político e ideológico.
In the scope of Portuguese Colonial Empire of 19th and 20th centuries, this chapter presents and debates the Imperial Public Sphere, which had as main institution the press of Portugal and the newspapers published in colonial territories. The Imperial Public Sphere shaped a public space of discussion, contest and struggle regarding the socio-po- litical challenges of Portugal, its colonies and Portuguese Empire. The ‘imperial elites’ and ‘colonial elites’ were the key protagonists of this public space, where they played political and ideological power.
