Abstract(s)
This report follows the Master's and Specialization Course in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the aspect of Person in Critical Situation, held at the Catholic University of Lisbon. The completion of this report intends to reflect the entire academic path, through a retrospective analysis of the carried-out activities and, consequently, of the specialized skills in Medical-Surgical Nursing acquired. The learning process was developed in two distinct stages of internship: Intensive Care Unit and Emergency Service. During this process I tried to develop a critical-reflective practice, using the assumptions defended by Katerina Kolcaba. The result sought by nurses in their capable practice translates into reaching a state of relief, tranquillity and transcendence in the physical, psycho-spiritual, social and environmental contexts, which we can simply call comfort (Kolcaba, 1992). Incorporating the relevance of comfort satisfaction, I chose to focus my research on themes related to non-pharmacological interventions with the use of sound. Subsequently materializing the phenomenon in clinical practice, seeking to promote the comfort of patients, families and healthcare professionals. In addition, that throughout this document I base the decision-making process regarding the internship fields and thematic areas developed, I describe in a critical, reflective and well-founded manner the activities and strategies used to achieve the defined objectives in order to explain the developed competences. And I complement this process with the sharing and development of knowledge, leaving consultation documents on the material needed for the placement of chest drainage.
