Abstract(s)
This internship report is part of the Final Stage and Report Curricular Unit, integrated in the XI Professional Master's Degree in Nursing, with specialization in Mental and Psychiatric Health Nursing, from the Health Sciences Institute of the Portuguese Catholic University of Lisbon. The clinical practice began with the Curricular Unit Clinical Decision Course, in a total of seven weeks, in the second semester (from May to July 2018) and continued its course through the current Curricular Unit, with greater impact and practice time, counting with fifteen weeks of internship (from September to December 2018). and three hundred and sixty hours of clinical contact. This report aims to demonstrate the course taken, their learning and difficulties experienced. It will demonstrate the way forward, describing the internship sites and learning opportunities encountered. Guiding the clinical course through the transversal theme of Assertiveness, the path covered during these months was directed with a project of internship in the field of assertive communication and assertiveness training, with the family of the person with mental illness. The Assertiveness Training, as a psychotherapeutic intervention, emerges as a research theme along this path of master's degree, guiding me through theoretical and practical scientific research. The present work intends to show how the nurse specialists in Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing (MHPN) can use this psychotherapeutic intervention in their clinical practice. This is shown to be transversal to health and mental illness, which can be applied to various target populations in the training of social skills. At the end, analyzing cross-sectional learning, we conclude how the course carried out contributed to the process of self-development and self-awareness.
