Resumo(s)

Italy has been one of the most committed member states in the journey un-dertaken together with the other founding countries for the construction of a united Europe. The country hosted key events such as the EEC and EUR-ATOM Treaties as well as other fundamental steps of the European integra-tion process. Along with the European integration, Italy has always supported the process of construction of a common European security and defense. Nev-ertheless, the Italian civil society as well as its political parties have often been critical towards the UE, an attitude that has found new vigor in recent years with the advent of sovereigntist movements and new regional and global challenges. However, these same movements along with the Italian civil society seem to have always been supporting the CSDP, probably ex-actly as a response to such challenges.
