Este texto propõe a ligação entre a problemÔtica da diferenciação no universo religioso e a reflexão sobre os limites do objecto de estudo da história da religião. O estudo da manifestação da diferença é, para tanto, equacionado da perspectiva do fenómeno da crença, considerando-se este o limite (abrangente) do objecto de estudo da história da religião. Crença e diferença são vistas como uma única dinâmica histórica que não pode ser captada apenas pela história das instituições (religiosas), mas que exige outras abordagens e registos historiogrÔficos. Nesse sentido, é sugerida uma reavaliação conceptual, relativizando-se a validade do paradigma da secularização e questionando-se a operacionalidade da ideia de laicização, vista como uma proposição mais valorativa do que rigorosamente conceptual.
This essay proposes a connection between the problematic of differentiation in the religious universe and reflection on the limits to objects of religious history study. The study of the manifestation of difference is, to such an extent, considered from the perspective of the phenomenon of belief with this deemed to be the (encompassing) limit of religious history objects of study. Belief and difference are seen as a single historical dynamic that cannot be captured only through the history of institutions (religious) but rather requiring other approaches and historiographic source material. To this end, a conceptual re-evaluation is proposed, considering the relative validity of the secularisation paradigm and questioning the operational effectiveness of the lay idea, seen more as a valuable proposition than conceptually rigorous.
