Abstract(s)
A diocese which is also known as local church, is a certain human community, who lives and believes in Jesus Christ and understands himself as his Body. A diocese is constituted in specific context with its gravitation of forces, pretensions, efforts and opportunities. This itinerary of thought to the reality of the diocese of Santarém speaks of two periods with its distinct achievements: in the sixteenth century, at the wake of the Council of Trent, in which this reality was planned, but not concretized; in the twentieth century, under the aegis of the Second Vatican Ecumenical Council, occurs its creation on July 16, 1975, by Pope Paul VI's Bula Apostolicae Sedis Consuetudinem. This final dissertation in Theology is based on sources and documental research, which seeks as an object of study, to analyze the conditions, perspectives and arguments that underpinned both projects, as well as makes us understand the causes Which led, in one case, to the unfeasibility of the concretization of the project and in the other to its implementation.
