Health Survey – SF 36; Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Checklist for DSM-5; Questionário
The present study focused on the life quality of women victims of intimate partner violence (IPV), by analyzing the relationships between variables, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptomatology, quality of interpersonal relationships history of childhood victimization and its impact on mental and physical quality of life (QOL). This study sample is composed by 70 women victims of intimate partner violence and 70 nonvictimized women. To evaluate the variables under study, the following questionnaires were applied: Socio-demographic Questionnaire; Short Form Health Survey - SF 36; 6 Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Checklist for DSM-5; History of Adversity in Childhood Questionnaire; Quality of Interpersonal Relationships Inventory and Scales of Conflict Tactics Revised. It was verified that women victims of IPV had a higher PTSD symptomatology and a lower QOL compared to the non-victims. It was also verified that the majority of women with a history of childhood victimization were victims in adulthood, that the quality of interpersonal relationships was worse and that their QOL was lower compared to women who had no history of victimization in the childhood. It was also possible to examine the important role that psychosocial variables, such as PTSD, IPV, quality of interpersonal relations and history of victimization in childhood, have on the quality of life. However, the only negative predictor of QOL was PTSD. This study contributed to a better understanding of IPV and the negative implications it has on the lives of women victims.
