A pandemia COVID-19 é a maior emergência de saúde pública registada nas últimas décadas. Para além das preocupações ao nível da saúde física da população, esta situação parece estar a trazer consequências ao nível da saúde mental e em especial aos estudantes universitários. O objetivo do presente estudo consiste em explorar o impacto psicológico da pandemia COVID-19 no risco para o desenvolvimento de sintomatologia depressiva, ansiosa e stress, bem como estratégias de coping adotadas pelos estudantes universitários durante as medidas de confinamento. A amostra foi constituída por 913 estudantes, com idades compreendidas entre os 17 e os 75 anos. Para avaliação dos níveis de ansiedade, depressão e stress, utilizou-se a versão portuguesa adaptada da EADS-21- Escala de Ansiedade, Depressão e Stress e para a avaliação das estratégias de coping utilizou-se o Questionário Brief Cope. Criou-se ainda um questionário para as varáveis sociodemográficas. Dos resultados obtidos através de uma metodologia quantitativa, salienta-se que uma elevada percentagem dos estudantes apresentava níveis clínicos de ansiedade, depressão e stress durante o período de confinamento. Conclui-se ainda que existem diferenças e correlações entre as variáveis, sexo, idade e ciclo de estudos em relação à sintomatologia depressiva, ansiosa e stress e estratégias de coping.
The COVID-19 pandemic is the biggest public health emergency registered in the last decades. Besides the concerns in terms of physical health of the population, the pandemic situation caused by the virus can also have consequences in terms of mental health, especially in university students. The purpose of this study is to explore the psychological impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the risk for the development of depressive, anxious and stress symptoms, as well as coping strategies adopted by university students during confinement measures. The sample included 913 university students with ages ranging between 17 and 75 years old. To assess the anxiety, depression and stress levels it was used an adapted Portuguese version of the DASS21 – Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale and to access the coping strategies was used the Brief Cope Questionnaire. A sociodemographic questionnaire was also created. From the results obtained through a quantitative methodology, it was remarqued a high percentage of students that showed clinical levels of anxiety, depression and stress during the confinement. It was also concluded that there are differences and correlations between the variables of gender, age and cycle of studies in relation to depressive, anxious and stress symptoms and coping strategies.
