A utilização do “Family Life Space”
The main objective of this research work is to perceive and understand the motivations and expectations of couples who chose to have a child in the last year, and to observe their adaptations during the COVID-19 pandemic, also considering the quality of their marital relationship and with the families of origin. Starting from the consideration of how the marital relationship was affected due to the pandemic context and the couple's experience regarding the transition to parenthood, we propose to carry out an exploratory qualitative study, based on the experience reported by two couples. In this sense, two qualitative graphic/pictorial instruments were used for data collection. First, the Sociodemographic Questionnaire and a semi-structured interview designed specifically for this investigation were applied, and then the "Family Life Space" (1976/2019) developed by Mostwin and translated and adapted for the Portuguese population from the Italian version of Cigoli and Temanza (2018). The use of “Family Life Space” offers several advantages involving the family as a whole, it considers the family as a unit, as something that is more than the mere sum of its parts, allowing the exploration of the interactive and relational dimension of the family experience.
