Isabel de Coímbra y los modelos de religiosidad reginal en los reinos ibéricos a fines de la Edad Media

dc.description.abstractAlgunas reinas ibéricas sobresalieron por su religiosidad hasta ser veneradas como santas. Otras tuvieron una acción más discreta en este campo, como Isabel de Coímbra (1432-1455). En su corta vida, lo que impresionó a los cronistas fue la forma en que supo conciliar sus deberes de hija y de esposa en el conflicto que opuso a su padre, el infante Pedro, y su marido Afonso V de Portugal y que culminó en la muerte de aquél en armas contra el rey. Sin embargo, los documentos de la cancillería real nos enseñan que Isabel protegió a los desvalidos, mantuvo mujeres pobres y honradas, e impulsó la instalación en Portugal de una nueva congregación, la de San Juan Evangelista, dotándola de un nuevo convento en Lisboa. El ejemplo de Isabel de Coímbra, cruzado con los de otras reinas de su tiempo, nos permitirá definir los modelos de religiosidad disponibles para las reinas ibéricas medievales, que variaban según su posición en el ciclo de vida así como sus devociones personales.pt_PT
dc.description.abstractA few Iberian queens stood out for their religiosity and were venerated as saints. Isabella of Coimbra (1432-1455) is not one of those. The chroniclers of her short life focus on the way in which she conciliated her duties as the daughter of the Infant Pedro and the wife of King Alfonso v of Portugal in the conflict which both men held and which ended with the death of the former in battle. However, the documents of the Royal Chancellery reveal an Isabella that protected the destitute, looked after poor and honest women, and promoted the introduction into Portugal of the new congregation of Saint John the Evangelist, endowing it with a convent in Lisbon. Reading Isabella in parallel with other queens of her time will allow us to define the models of religiosity available to the medieval Iberian queens, which varied with the queens' life cycles and with their personal devotions.pt_PT
