| dc.description.abstract | O presente estudo tem como finalidade desenvolver uma reflexão ética sobre os comportamentos dos agentes económicos intervenientes no seio da crise económico-financeira nos Estados Unidos da América. A investigação debruça-se sobre as condutas não éticas durante a crise do subprime, sendo o nosso objetivo analisá-las e conseguir perceber qual o papel destas falhas na origem desta crise. Numa primeira fase, que aborda a revisão da literatura, tratamos os conceitos-chave desta investigação de forma a aprofundar os seus aspetos etimológicos, históricos, evolução e significado atual. Os principais conceitoschave analisados são os de ética, crise, corrupção, fraude, ambiente organizacional e cultura organizacional. Em seguida, nos resultados, são abordados alguns dos casos de falhas éticas, ligados a exemplos concretos da história norte-americana, situando-se alguns deles no início deste século (como os da Enron e da Worldcom) e outros surgido aquando da crise de 2007-2008 (como o esquema em pirâmide de Madoff, ou a operação que ficou conhecida como a Big Short). A dissertação conclui que existe uma forte correlação entre as falhas éticas dos agentes económicos individuais e o surgimento da crise. Não obstante, também chegamos à conclusão que na maior parte das vezes estes comportamentos também estão fortemente relacionados com a cultura organizacional em que o indivíduo está inserido. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | This master’s thesis puts forward an ethical reflection on the behavior of the economic agents involved in the economic and financial crisis of the United States of America. The research delves on the ethical flaws of individual agents during the subprime crisis with the goal of analyzing them and understanding the extent of their role in bringing about the crisis. Thus, in a first section of the text which addresses the literature review, we present the key concepts of this investigation in order to address their etymology, history, evolution and current meaning. These main key concepts are : ethics, crisis, corruption, fraud, corporate environment and corporate culture. In a second section, thie dissertation analyzes the significance of some ethical flaws connected with concrete American examples. Some of these took place at the beginning of this century (such as Enron or Worldcom) and the others during the 2007-2008 crisis (such as Madoff’s Ponzi scheme, or the transaction that came to be known as the “Big Short”). This theis concludes that there is a strong correlation between the ethical failures of individual economic agents and the beginning of the crisis. Nevertheless, we also come to the conclusion that most of the time these behaviors are strongly related to the organizational culture in which the individual is inserted. | pt_PT |
