Abstract(s)
This dissertation examines the role of the Social teaching of the Church (STC) in shaping discipleship in the Nacala’s Diocese, Mozambique, highlighting the relationship between the social dimension of evangelization, the STC, and mature discipleship. The Christian faith is seen as inseparable from social issues, with Jesus Christ serving as the central model of love, compassion, and transformation. The Church's responsibility lies in diligently conveying the message of the Gospel and promoting social justice. The STC is presented as a set of ethical principles guiding Christians towards the construction of a more just society, emphasizing the common good, solidarity, and the dignity of the human person. The family is considered fundamental for the moral formation of society, while polygamy and witchcraft are identified as challenges to Christian discipleship. The text underscores the importance of ongoing formation for Christians, incorporating the values of the STC and addressing cultural challenges. There is a highlighted need for updating the formation process, especially to address new challenges such as integral ecology. Lastly, the inquiry is made whether the STC is widely known and applied in the Nacala’s Diocese.
