Abstract(s)
The banking sector plays a fundamental role in the development of Mozambique´s economy so it is important to analyze the relationship between macroeconomic variables and this sector. In recent years, Mozambique grew significantly, and growth is predictable to remain solid in the future according to the “African Economic Outlook”.1 During the last two decades the sector have been going through a process of reforms and restructuring. The Mozambican banking sector has evolved over years in terms of number of banks and bank branches, however the access to credit for small and medium enterprises continues to be difficult and is one of the main problem of these types of companies. The difficulties to access credit comprises diverse factors, such as the requirements and preconditions to access to banks, the provision of warranties, the regulatory framework, the lack of incentives, the history beyond those type of credit lines, etc. The present dissertation aims to give an overview of the country in general and to analyze how can possibly overcome those types of difficulties to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). If another bank wants to enter in the market, what conditions it should ensure in order to be successful in finish the gap between the needs and the reality in credit lines to SMEs? So, the examination of how successful some reforms have been implemented in other developing countries and if it is possible to extend to Mozambique are the main purpose of the study.
