Abstract(s)
Introduction: Physiotherapy in palliative care plays a fundamental role in improving the quality of life of older people, especially in the home-based care context. This scoping review aims to map the clinical practices of physiotherapy applied to elderly patients in home-based palliative care and identify gaps in the scientific literature. Methodology: A comprehensive search was conducted across the MEDLINE, CINAHL, SCOPUS, and WEB OF SCIENCE databases. The inclusion criteria were based on the population (elderly individuals aged 65 or over), on concept (physiotherapy interventions), and on context (home-based palliative care). The study selection process was documented using a PRISMA flowchart. Results: A total of 3317 articles were identified, of which 1108 were duplicates. After initial screening, 36 articles were selected for full-text reading, resulting in the inclusion of only one article that met all the inclusion criteria. The main reasons for excluding other articles were the lack of a detailed description of physiotherapy interventions and the inclusion of populations younger than 65 years. Conclusions: This review reveals a scarcity of evidence on physiotherapy practice in home-based palliative care for elderly patients. There is a clear need for more specific scientific research in this area to provide stronger guidelines for clinical practice.
