The concept of the child has evolved over time and now plays a central role both within the family and in society. This evolution has brought new challenges for nurses, who are confronted daily with the need to respond competently and sensitively to the specificities and particularities of each child and their family in terms of healthcare. The child, as a growing, developing and changing being, requires nursing care adapted to their needs. This complexity requires nurses to have a set of specific competences in the area of Child and Paediatric Health Nursing, underpinned by evidence-based practice, health promotion and the humanisation of care. This report illustrates the training path developed to acquire competences within the scope of the Master's Degree in Nursing, specialising in Child and Paediatric Health Nursing, through the internship, which took place in different care contexts. This report has been organised around the four areas of competence: Care Provision, Care Management, Research and Training. A descriptive and critical-reflective methodology was used, supported by the specific objectives and activities developed to obtain new learning, scientific knowledge and the competences required in this cycle of studies, which were based on the best scientific evidence. Throughout this course, emphasis was placed on the various areas of activity of nurses specialising in child and paediatric health nursing, such as communication in establishing a therapeutic relationship with the child and their family, pain management, development focused care, promoting parenting, partnership care and monitoring child and adolescent health. Special attention was paid to the problem of child and adolescent abuse, prevention and referral. This is a very pertinent and topical issue that needs to be much discussed in child and family care contexts. In view of the above, it was possible to carry out an Integrative Literature Review and provide scientific evidence on the contexts of clinical practice in dealing with the problem of child and adolescent abuse. This report explains the process of developing specialised skills in caring for children and their families, which will make it possible to provide excellent care in the future, as well as improving the quality and humanisation of the care provided.
