dc.description.abstractThis article is a reflection on the effects produced by the standardized tests on the quality of elementary students´ learnings, on the professional and organizational development, which will be the basis for an empiric study to be carried out for the PhD in Sciences of Education at the Catholic University of Oporto. This text has three different parts. The first one aims at contextualizing the creation of both final exams and intermediate tests, in historical, epistemological, political and sociological terms, taking into account conceptual, theoretical and legal tables. In the second part, some arguments supporting and criticizing the exams are pointed out. There is also reference to the impact of the external standardized tests application and rankings, more commonly found in specialized literature and reports. The last part deals with some authors´ perspective on the necessity to come up with an alternative model of accountability which may be more democratic, participative and critical. Finally, the main conclusions of this analysis are presented and some questions are arisen to be empirically clarified.pt_PT
