Abstract(s)
Prose poem “Borges e os tigres”, by Eugénio de Andrade, invokes, intertextually, two other wild beasts, present in the compositions “The Tiger”, by English writer William Blake, and “El otro tigre”, by Nobel Prize winner Jorge Luis Borges. In this article, I examine the three texts, in order to understand how Eugénio reflects, appropriates and recreates, with imagination and talent, the literary animals of Blake and Borges. To accomplish my goals, I resort to studies by specialists in the fields of literature, myth and symbol. The result will be, I expect, a different and revealing perspective about the meanings that hide in Eugénio’s prose poem.
