A evolução tecnológica revolucionou a forma como os negócios são conduzidos e criou a necessidade de as empresas reconfigurarem os seus modelos de negócio para dar resposta às necessidades do contexto digital. À medida que as empresas passam pelo processo de transformação digital, torna-se necessário avaliar o estado atual das práticas digitais nas empresas e os modelos de maturidade digital auxiliam nessa avaliação. Sendo a aplicabilidade de modelos de maturidade digital na área dos serviços, nomeadamente no setor bancário pouco desenvolvida, o presente estudo tem como principal objetivo perceber a relação entre a maturidade digital e modelos de negócio, em instituições financeiras de crédito, em Portugal. Para dar resposta à questão de investigação, “Como pode a maturidade digital ser um potenciador de novos modelos de negócio em instituições financeiras de crédito?” recorreu-se a uma abordagem qualitativa através de três casos de estudo do tipo descritivo, e, utilizou-se a entrevista como instrumento de recolha de dados, de modo a analisar os modelos de negócio digitais e aplicar um modelo de maturidade digital no setor bancário em três instituições financeiras de crédito Os resultados sugerem que a tecnologia, a eficiência e a personalização são elementos resultantes do processo de transformação digital nas empresas e que a maturidade digital é um potenciador de novos modelos de negócio no setor financeiro, ou seja, através do nível de maturidade digital, as empresas conseguem perceber os seus pontos fortes e fracos, e daí redefinir o seu modelo de negócio, uma vez que o mesmo ajuda a definir as prioridades e a estratégia.

As companies go through the digital transformation process, it becomes necessary to assess the current state of digital practices in companies and digital maturity models help in this assessment. As the applicability of digital maturity models in the services area, namely in the banking sector, is underdeveloped, this study aims to understand the relationship between digital maturity and business models in credit financial institutions in Portugal. To answer the research question, ““How can digital maturity be an enabler of new business models in credit financial institutions?”, a qualitative approach was used through three descriptive case studies, and the interview was used as a data collection tool, in order to analyze the digital business models and apply a digital maturity model in the banking sector in three credit financial institutions. The results suggest that technology, efficiency and customization are elements resulting from the digital transformation process in companies and that digital maturity is an enabler of new business models in the financial sector, i.e., through the level of digital maturity, companies can understand their strengths and weaknesses, and then redefine their business model, since it helps to define priorities and strategy.
