Abstract(s)
Uppfostran – Children (Castro, Toro, van der Ende, & Arrindell, 1993; versão
promovam estilos parentais educativos positivos
With the general objective of analyzing the influence of the perception of parenting on the emotional development of children, a sample of 86 subjects was studied, of which 36 are male (41.9%) and 50 female (58.1%), with ages. between 8 and 12 years (M = 10.19, SD = 1,315). For this purpose, the Sociodemographic Questionnaire elaborated for this purpose, Egna Minnen Bertraffande Uppfostran - Children (Castro, Toro, van der Ende, & Arrindell, 1993; Portuguese version of Pereira, & Canavarro, 2003) was applied to evaluate the perception that children have parenting styles and the Piers-Harris Children's Self-Concept Scale (Piers-Harris, 1964) (adapted for the Portuguese population by Veiga, 2006) to assess self-concept. The data obtained demonstrate statistically significant results between parenting and children's emotional development. In addition, there are differences depending on gender and age of children, number of siblings, age and parental education. The results were generally as expected and were discussed based on the literature, taking into consideration future studies. They warn of the importance of developing programs that promote positive parenting styles.
