Abstract(s)
This article begins with a perspective on the processes of change that religious history has undergone since the 1950s, from the rupture in its methodology and trends predating World War Two and the arsenal of methods and resources that has since been established. Subsequently, three case studies are presented so as to exemplify the different methods of religious history: the case of the author’s own research into the Inquisition, demonstrating the importance of comparative methods and searching for new source types, the case of the first systematic Propaganda Fide criticism (written in 1629-31) of Portuguese missionary practices in Asia and a concrete case of a non-written source to highlight the importance of this source type.
