O objectivo deste relatório de estágio é retratar a perspectiva de uma empresa de
Capital de Risco numa análise a um sector tradicional da Economia — a aquacultura. A
pesquisa centra a sua atenção na análise do tecido empresarial Ibérico, mas também
analisa brevemente o mercado Europeu. Nestes, são analisados o de potencial de
crescimento do mercado e os seus riscos inerentes. Dada a situação actual de
esgotamento da fauna marinha, foi colocada a possibilidade de a aquacultura poder vir a
apresentar um elevado crescimento nos próximos anos, o que faria dele um candidato a
um investimento por parte da empresa de Capital de Risco.
Após a análise do sector, e em particular do tecido empresarial português,
concluiu-se que não existia nenhuma empresa em Portugal que se adequasse como alvo
de investimento, e que factores como a volatilidade da produção e excessivas barreiras
burocráticas em Portugal impedem uma operação Greenfield no sector, apesar do
potencial de crescimento que se perspectiva que venha a ter.
This internship report aims to depict a Private Equity player’s view of the old Economy industry of Aquaculture. The Iberian market is the core focus of the research, however there is also a concise analysis of the European corporate panorama. The main subjects treated in the foregoing analysis are Growth potential and probable risks. Given the current situation of excessive fishing and exhaustion of sea life, aquaculture was thought to undergo a high growth in the next years, hence making it a potential target for a Private Equity investment. This study finds that there is no suitable company in the Portuguese market fit for the firm’s investment, and that the excessive bureaucracy stands in the way of a Greenfield operation, even though the sector is expected to go through a period of fast growth.
