compreendendo as experiências vividas, o significado e o papel do acolhimento,
a indisponibilidade e ausência familiar. A reação à medida é negativa, contudo, a
Despite some studies carried out in Portugal, there is still little research on the perceptions of children and young people about a residential experience. Thus, it is considered relevant to carry out this work in order to enrich literature, understanding as lived experiences, the meaning and role of the reception, corresponding to one's own, family, peers, technicians and institution. This qualitative study was carried out among four participants, three female and one male, aged between 8 and 15 years, of a Temporary Reception Center (CAT) in the north of the country. The institutionalization is more than one month and less than five years. A collection of information was obtained through the biannual interview to the children and to the case manager and the documentary analysis. For an analysis of the results we used categorical content analysis. The four cases (A, B, C, D), which correspond to the four participants, are presented individually, as well as a characterization of the institution. With the results, we conclude that, the most frequent reason for the reception, is unavailability and family absence. The reaction to the negative, however, a reception experience and a representation of the institution are characterized positively. Family absence and institutional routines are seen as negative aspects. Positive moments are marked by family visits and play activities. All participants yearn to go live with the family.
