Muito embora a emergência da Companhia de Jesus no século XVI tenha provocado significativas alterações no ensino em Portugal, permitiu, ainda assim, uma forma de continuidade no estudo da língua grega, na medida em que privilegiava o recurso a autores clássicos. Tomando como ponto de partida os vários documentos da Companhia sobre o ensino de Grego e os instrumentos elaborados para esse fim – nomeadamente a coletânea Aliquot Opuscula Graeca publicada em Coimbra em 1583 –, este estudo tem como objetivo identificar que obras gregas eram lidas nos colégios jesuítas em Portugal e de que modo terão sido adaptadas ao sistema pedagógico jesuíta.
Although the emergence of the Society of Jesus in the 16th century caused significant changes in the teaching in Portugal, it still allowed a form of continuity in the study of the Greek language, as it privileged the use of classical authors. Taking as a starting point several documents of the Society about the teaching of the Greek language and the instruments elaborated for that purpose – namely the collection Aliquot Opuscula Graeca published in Coimbra in 1583 –, this study aims at identifying which Greek works were read in the Jesuit colleges in Portugal and how they were adapted to the Jesuit pedagogical system.
