Enquadramento: A pandemia por COVID-19 despoletou uma imensa carga psicológica aos enfermeiros devido a uma combinação de fatores de stress no local de trabalho e medos pessoais. A saúde deve ser uma prioridade e as estratégias de prevenção e intervenção de saúde mental devem ser promovidas para melhorar a saúde, produtividade e a eficiência destes profissionais, com reflexos diretos nos cuidados prestados aos doentes. Objetivos: Avaliar o nível de burnout em enfermeiros a exercer no setor público e no setor privado, em contexto de pandemia por COVID-19; identificar as variáveis sociodemográficas e profissionais que se associam com o burnout em enfermeiros a exercer no setor público e no setor privado, em contexto de pandemia por COVID-19. Métodos: Investigação quantitativa, descritiva, transversal e correlacional, realizada face a uma amostra não probabilística por conveniência, constituída por 308 membros da Ordem dos Enfermeiros portugueses em exercício profissional ativo, primordialmente do género feminino (93,5%), com uma média de idades de 40,13±9,77anos. Para tal utilizou-se o Questionário de Copenhagen Burnout Inventory – PT(CBI - PT), disponibilizado para recolha de dados através da plataforma Google Forms. Resultados: Constatou-se que existe um elevado nível de burnout pessoal e burnout no trabalho quer no setor público, quer no setor privado. O nível de burnout é mais elevado nos inquiridos do setor público nas 3 dimensões. A idade revelou ser a variável sociodemográfica com relevância estatisticamente significativa com o nível de burnout. Das variáveis profissionais as que apresentam uma relevância estatisticamente significativa com o nível de burnout foram a função exercida, o setor, o tempo de exercício da profissão e a especialização. Os enfermeiros na faixa etária dos 41-50anosapresentam um nível mais elevado nas três dimensões do burnout. Obteve-se um nível de burnout mais elevado nos participantes com 36-40 anos de profissão nas três dimensões do burnout; um nível de burnout mais elevado nos enfermeiros da especialidade de Saúde Mental e Psiquiátrica nas dimensões burnout trabalho e burnout relacionado com o cliente. Os enfermeiros que exercem na área de Saúde Materna e Obstétrica apresentam um nível mais elevado de burnout na dimensão burnout pessoal.
