mudança de paradigma na área da psiquiatria que tem vindo a ocorrer nos últimos anos com o processo de desinstitucionalização pressupõe o desenvolvimento de estruturas e respostas de integração na comunidade. No entanto, em Portugal,estes serviços não se coadunam com o estado da arte nesta matéria.
Neste sentido, este trabalho teve como principal objetivo, avaliar se existem
diferenças entre viver na comunidade ou institucionalizado em pessoas com
diagnóstico de esquizofrenia.
Desta forma, este estudo comparou a qualidade de vida (QV), a satisfação com o
suporte social (SSS) e o funcionamento social (FS) em doentes com esquizofrenia a
viver na comunidade (N = 15) ou institucionalizados (N = 15). Para tal, foram
utilizados os seguintes instrumentos, Questionário Breve de Qualidade de vida da
Organização Mundial da Saúde – WHOQOL- bref (WHOQOL GROUP, 1998; versão portuguesa de Vaz-Serra, et al., 2006), Escala de Satisfação com o Suporte Social – ESSS (Pais-Ribeiro, 1999b) e Escala de Desempenho Pessoal e Social - PSP (versão portuguesa de Brissos, Palhavã, et al., 2011).
Contrariamente às hipóteses levantadas e ao que é defendido pela literatura, não foram registadas diferenças significativas entre os dois contextos em nenhuma das variáveis avaliadas.
Terminamos com uma breve reflexão sobre as principais conclusões e limitações do estudo, bem como, com sugestões para investigações futuras
The change of paradigm in the field/area of psychiatry that has been happening in the last years with the deinstitutionalization process requires the development of structures and responses of community integration. However, in Portugal, these services are not consistent with the state of the art in this field. In this sense, the main goal of this study was to evaluate whether there are major differences between living in the community or institutionalized in people with schizophrenia. In this way/therefore, we compared the quality of life, social support satisfaction and social functioning in patients with schizophrenia living in the community (N = 15) or institutionalized (N = 15). To this end, we used the following instruments, the Brief Questionnaire of Quality of Life World Health Organization - WHOQOL-BREF (WHOQOL Group, 1998, Portuguese version of Vaz-Serra, et al., 2006), the Social Support Satisfaction Scale - ESSS (Pais-Ribeiro, 1999b) and Personal and Social Performance Scale - PSP (Portuguese version of Brissos, Palhavã, et al., 2011). Contrary to the study hypotheses and it is argued in the literature, no significant differences were founded between the two contexts in any variable. We end up with a brief reflection of the main conclusions, limitations of the study, and with some suggestions for future investigations.
