The work presented here is a concise study of the rich history of the Friars Minor in Portugal since their beginnings in 1217. It encompasses the historical moments of the Order within the European context and the milestones that define the presence of these religious in our country. The developments surrounding the founding and ascendancy of the Observance phenomenon occupy an important part in this study.
