As transições são processos fundamentais no ciclo de vida e embora não
impliquem necessariamente doença, esta surge como um elemento que exige
uma mudança e um processo de adaptação. Por sua vez a adaptação de
comportamento às diferentes situações ou acontecimentos prevê a existência de
uma harmonia entre as necessidades internas, as demandas externas e os
processos utilizados para essa concretização.
Neste contexto o Enfermeiro de Saúde Mental e Psiquiatria surge, pelas suas
competências específicas que contemplam a pessoa durante o ciclo vital, o
individuo, famílias e comunidades, como o profissional com plenas capacidades
para auxiliar o outro na adaptação a diversos desafios de vida, incluam a doença
ou promovam a saúde mental.
