O mercado capitalista moderno revela ser um dos principais temas do debate económico, político e social do nosso tempo. O seu dinamismo e produtividade, mas também as suas contradições têm sido alvo de um debate aceso e disputado, entre pensadores e intelectuais de todas as diferentes famílias políticas. Este trabalho procura entender melhor a complexidade e a discussão que envolve o mercado capitalista moderno, através da análise da obra de dois pensadores, com visões bastantes distintas sobre o que é o mercado livre e as suas consequências a nível político e social, Friedrich Hayek e Herbert Marcuse. Assim, procurarei definir e perceber que significado estes dois autores atribuem ao mercado, a sua complexidade, a relação deste com a política e a sociedade, e de que forma contribuí para o avanço, ou atraso, da sociedade moderna. Nesta medida, o presente trabalho procura perceber de que forma os autores, Herbert Marcuse e Friedrich Hayek, entendem o mercado livre moderno dentro do sistema capitalista, tentando refletir posteriormente sobre a associação, que ambos os autores elaboram entre o mercado e a liberdade de cada indivíduo, a correlação entre a sua visão do mercado e as suas consequências políticas e sociais, mas também as implicações que as suas abordagens distintas sobre o mercado têm na própria felicidade individual.
The modern capitalist market is proving to be one of the main themes of the economic, political and social debate of our time. Its dynamism and productivity, but also its contradictions, have been the subject of heated and disputed debate among thinkers and intellectuals from all the different political families. This dissertation seeks to better understand the complexity and the debate surrounding the modern capitalist market by analysing the work of two thinkers with very different views on what the free market is and its political and social consequences, Friedrich Hayek and Herbert Marcuse. Thus, I will try to define and understand what meaning these two authors attribute to the market, its complexity, its relationship with politics and society, and how it contributes to the advance, or decline, of modern society. To this extent, this paper seeks to understand how the authors, Herbert Marcuse and Friedrich Hayek, understand the modern free market within the capitalist system, trying to reflect further on the association that both authors elaborate between the market and the freedom of each individual, the correlation between their vision of the market and its political and social consequences, but also the implications that their distinct approaches on the market have on individual happiness itself.
