Abstract(s)
This report is part of the Final Traineeship and Report of the 13th Master's Degree in Nursing and Specialisation in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the area of Nursing in Critical Care (EEMC-PSC) of the Institute of Health Sciences of the Portuguese Catholic University of Lisbon (UCP). Its presentation and public discussion aims at obtaining the Master's degree. This study aims to describe the journey carried out in two internship fields: the Cardio-thoracic Surgery Unit (CCU) and the Emergency Medical Vehicle and Resuscitation (EMRV), punctuated by the objectives set out and the activities developed, as well as by reflections and observations, with a view to acquiring and developing the skills of a Nurse Specialist in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the area of Critical Care Patients (CSP). The theme for the scoping review "Strategies promoting communication, using technology, between hospitalised adults and their families during the covid-19 pandemic" is based on personal motivations adjusted to the ongoing pandemic condition. The theoretical framework underlying the theme is Jean Watson's and the Transpersonal Care Theory, since it reflects the relationship of help and trust between nurses and patients, which goes beyond the merely physical care. The learning acquired and the experiences lived during the internships led to reflections and the development of specialised nursing skills within the scope of professional, ethical and legal responsibility, continuous quality improvement, care management and the development of professional learning. This experience allowed me to have contact with the beginning (EMRV) and the end (CCU) of the "story" of many critically ill patients, since I work in emergency operating rooms. A very emotional journey that allowed me to get to know and better understand the critically ill patient and his/her family, as well as the reality of specialised nursing.
