Este trabalho mostra, através da análise de textos portugueses dos finais do século XVIII e inícios do século XIX, como o catolicismo foi recebido e integrado no espaço cabo‑verdiano, uma sociedade mestiça e em processo contínuo de mestiçagem. Procura‑se também caracterizar algumas particularidades da cultura e do catolicismo
nessa sociedade, desde os primórdios da ocupação do arquipélago pelos portugueses.
This paper reveals, through the analysis of Portuguese texts of the late eighteenth century and early nineteenth century, as Catholicism was received and integrated within Cape Verde, a society in continuous process of miscegenation. It intends also to characterize some particularities of the culture and Catholicism in this society since the beginning of the occupation of the archipelago by the Portuguese.
