Artificial Intelligence (AI) has the potential to revolutionise healthcare in the European Union (EU). AI can bring many benefits to our healthcare systems, such as increased efficiency and accuracy of the diagnostic process, safer surgeries, personalized medicine with enhanced patient care, and cost savings. However, it is essential to address the ethical, data quality and safety issues associated with the use of AI in healthcare. 1 One of the main challenges and biggest concern is the protection of patient data. The use of AI requires large amounts of data, including sensitive personal information, having the risk of data breaches, privacy violations, and misuse of patient data. Therefore, it is crucial to implement clear regulatory frameworks to ensure patient data is adequately safeguarded. Another concern is the potential bias in AI algorithms, which could lead to unfair treatment of certain patient groups. Moreover, healthcare professionals should receive training to understand the limitations and potential biases of AI, as well as to ensure this technology is used fairly and equitably. Despite all the challenges that come from the use of AI in healthcare, there have been significant advancements and the use of AI in healthcare is growing fast, having the potential to transform the way healthcare is provided. AI can help address the lack of healthcare professionals, improve the quality of care, and reduce costs. However, it is important to balance the benefits of AI with the ethical and data safety concerns to ensure the technology is used responsibly and for the benefit of all.pt_PT
