Esta tese explora a experiência vivida da endometriose através de uma lente fotográfica, combinando a prática artística com uma abordagem investigativa de uma condição muitas vezes marcada pela invisibilidade e erros de diagnóstico. Recorrendo a filme a preto e branco de 35 mm desenvolvido através de cianótipia, este trabalho articula visualmente as dimensões físicas e emocionais da endometriose. As imagens, apresentadas numa instalação site-specific, evocam a dor interna e a resiliência associadas à doença, com o objetivo de preencher a lacuna entre a experiência privada da doença crónica e a consciência pública. Este projeto envolve o espectador não só através da sua narrativa visual, mas também contextualizando os desafios históricos e sociais que rodeiam o diagnóstico e tratamento da endometriose. Ao fundir a expressão artística com a crítica sociocultural, este trabalho procura fomentar a empatia e a consciencialização, contribuindo para diálogos mais amplos sobre a saúde da mulher, pessoas com útero e as doenças invisíveis.
This thesis explores the lived experience of endometriosis through a photographic lens, combining artistic practice with an investigative approach to a condition often marked by invisibility and misdiagnosis. Utilizing 35mm black-and-white film developed through cyanotype, this body of work visually articulates the physical and emotional dimensions of endometriosis. The images, presented in a site-specific installation, evoke the internal pain and resilience associated with the condition, aiming to bridge the gap between the private experience of chronic illness and public awareness. This project engages the viewer not only through its visual narrative but also by contextualizing the historical and societal challenges surrounding endometriosis diagnosis and treatment. By merging artistic expression with sociocultural critique, this work seeks to foster empathy and awareness, contributing to broader dialogues on women’s health and invisible illnesses.
