Abstract(s)
According to the literature, that gives importance to the potential of the School
Educational Project (SEP) in the assertion of autonomy, in the construction of
identity and in the structuring of the schools dynamics, this article aims to identify
the importance of SEP in the functioning of a public school in the 2nd and 3rd
cycle of the Oporto Metropolitan Area.
In this study we chose a qualitative methodology, based on a case study. In terms
of the techniques, we used the participant observation in the field, we proceeded to
the analysis of the documents produced by the institution related to SEP
functioning, and were carried out semi-directive interviews, with subsequent
content analysis of the speech of participants, with distinct functions in the
institution.
In this investigation we can emphasize that the SEP, against what is indicated in
the literature and underlying legislation, which associate it to a "strategic plan" with
the potential to influence the institution functioning, in the analysed school it
appears that this management instrument reveals a low influence in
determining/structuring of their action. We identify some suggestions that may
help to strengthen the role of the SEP in the school functionality and in its mission
achievement.
