Abstract(s)
The promotion of an efficient and compliant protection system for the Rights of Victims of Crime is essential for an adequate experience of the victim throughout the judicial process. However, their rights are not always properly enforced. The present study sought to understand the perspectives of victim support professionals regarding victim support services and the fulfillment of victims' rights. Based on a qualitative methodology, the present investigation included an in-depth analysis of twelve semi-structured interviews and two focus groups conducted with professionals who seek to help victims. The results of this study allowed us to understand that victim support professionals have verified the existence of a positive evolution regarding the victims' knowledge of their rights, even though it is a slow process with deficient services. However, professionals recognize the importance of how to know their rights and of being transmitted all information from the first contact. In addition, professionals ensure that professional changes have been made in accordance with Directive 29/UE/2012 and the Statute of the Victim (Law no. 130/2015).
