Do chefe incontestado ao chefe panóptico: representações fotográficas de Salazar do Notícias Ilustrado ao Século Ilustrado

dc.description.abstractEste artigo analisa as representações fotográficas de Oliveira Salazar no Século Ilustrado, desde a sua fundação em 1938 por Leitão de Barros até ao final da Segunda Guerra Mundial, tomando como ponto de partida um anterior estudo sobre a construção da imagem do “Chefe” no Notícias Ilustrado (1928-1935). Adoptámos para o Século Ilustrado uma metodologia semelhante à desse trabalho. Depois do levantamento de todas as imagens fotográficas do ditador até 1945, submetemos as mais significativas capas, contracapas e reportagens a uma análise semiótica que procurou verificar a sintonia das representações com as circunstâncias políticas do regime e do seu líder. Simultaneamente, tentámos interpretar, através da fotografia impressa e das decisões gráficas das duas revistas, o processo de promoção e propaganda de Salazar, bem como a sua passagem de “Chefe consagrado” no Notícias Ilustrado, a “Chefe panóptico” no Século Ilustrado, e como esta identificação coincidiu na revista com a que se desenrolava no espaço público.pt_PT
dc.description.abstractThis article aims to analyze the photographic images of Oliveira Salazar in Século Ilustrado, from its foundation in 1938 by Leitão de Barros, until the end of the 2nd World War. As a starting point, we took a previous essay on the construction of the leader's image in Notícias Ilustrado (1928-1935) and a similar methodology was adopted. In the research process, all photographic images referring to the dictator Salazar until 1945 were surveyed, submitting the most important - covers, back covers and photo - to a semiotic analysis that sought to verify the adequacy of the dictator's representations to the political circumstances of his regime. At the same time, we tried to interpret through printed photography and in graphic decisions of the two magazines Salazar's promotion and how his propaganda will change from dictator and “unchallenged Leader” of government into a “Panoptic Leader”. The representation of Salazar in the Século Ilustrado magazine coincides with the one that takes place in the public space.pt_PT
