Abstract(s)
Alzheimer é uma doença neurodegenerativa, em que as alterações e destruições do
tecido nervoso são graduais e progressivas, iniciando-se a partir de um momento
indeterminado da vida adulta. Distinguem-se fases distintas da doença (fase inicial, fase
média e fase avançada) que ocorrem em diferentes estados. A única solução para esta
doença é uma intervenção bem estruturada para possibilitar uma boa qualidade de vida
ao utente, dentro do melhor que se consiga produzir.
Este estudo identifica a incidência, características e demais variáveis subjacentes à
saúde e qualidade de vida dos idosos institucionalizados com Alzheimer das Estrutura
Residencial Para Pessoas Idosas (ERPI) do concelho de Fafe.
Recorremos à implementação de um protocolo de observação não participante, à
realização de entrevistas a oito diretoras técnicas, para avaliar o impacto da demência de
Alzheimer nas suas instituições. Os resultados obtidos atestam, nomeadamente, a
carência de recursos físicos e humanos.
Os resultados obtidos são de suma importância para a praxis e futura pesquisa acerca
das dinâmicas sociais envolvidas neste fenómeno, assim como para a elaboração de
programas de prevenção e estratégias de intervenção direcionadas para o Alzheimer.
Alzheimer's is a neurodegenerative disease, in which the changes and destructions of the nervous tissue are gradual and progressive, starting from an indeterminate moment of adult life. The distinct phases of disease (early stage, middle stage and advanced stage) occur in different states. The only solution for this disease is a well-structured intervention to enable a good quality of life for the patient, within the best that can be achieved. This study identifies the incidence, characteristics and other variables underlying the health and quality of life of the institutionalized elderly with Alzheimer, in the Residential Structure for the Elderly (RSE) of Fafe municipality. We used a non-participant observation protocol and interviewed eight director technicians, to evaluate the impact of Alzheimer's dementia in her institutions. The results obtained attest, in particular, the lack of physical and human resources. The results obtained are extremely important for a practice and a future research on the social dynamics involved in this phenomenon, as well as for the elaboration of prevention programs and intervention strategies directed towards Alzheimer.
