Abstract(s)
The present study aimed to contribute to a greater knowledge about the patterns of alcohol consumption during pregnancy in Portugal and included its relation with the psychological experience of pregnancy. Data were collected through an online questionnaire that includes an initial form that allows to collect information regarding the sociodemographic and pregnancy characterization. The instruments used and included in this questionnaire were: Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test (AUDIT) and the Pregnancy and Maternity Attitudes Scale (EAGM). The main results confirm the existence of consumption of alcoholic beverages during pregnancy in Portuguese pregnant women, with 20.3% of our sample showing consumption, despite the recommendations of total abstinence from alcohol during pregnancy, by reason of the unknown existence of a safe limit for this consumption. The data also show that women reduce alcohol consumption during pregnancy. No significant correlations were found between alcohol consumption and the psychological experience of pregnancy. It is suggested to continue this line of investigation in order to increase the sample, since there is a limitation of national data.
